Fashionable, Functional & Fun!

Trichotillomania- a name that I had never heard before my daughter started the third grade. Trichotillomania is a disorder that results in compulsive hair pulling causing bald patches. Soon after my 8 year old daughter started the third grade I started noticing a patch of hair loss on her forehead in her bangs. I then noticed a small patch of hair loss around the crown of her head. I took her to the pediatrician who said "Oh, it looks like she is pulling her hair." The Dr. did not give it a name at that point and did not seem concerned about it. The two spots started to get bigger and bigger and grow together. I took her to another Dr. and even took the cat to the vet as I was concerned it was ringworm possibly spread from the cat. Finally I took her to a Dermatologist who then gave it a name,Trichotillomania!
